Our Story
The Summerour family established Three Strands Family Vineyard and Winery in 2017 with a vision to create a wine lover’s paradise on their 20 acre Paulding County estate. They carefully and deliberately nestled the custom designed and built Winery and Tasting Room among the rolling vineyards to create a fully immersive experience for future patrons.
The Summerour family employed a number of industry professionals to assist them in establishing the vineyard, and position themselves for making fabulous wines right from the beginning.
Fritz Westover of Westover Vineyard Advising (Texas) was the first consultant who educated them on the key aspects of establishing and maintaining a healthy vineyard. This included topics such as vine varietals, soil analysis, vine spacing, trellising, spray programs, vine training, pruning, and harvesting.
Denise Gardner, a wine making consultant out of Pennsylvania, worked with Jason for two years to educate him on the science and chemistry behind great wine making. This included establishing wine making protocols, cleaning and sanitization protocols, building out a wine lab, acquiring necessary wine making equipment, and understanding how to use it all effectively.
The Summerour family initially planted one acre of Crimson Cabernet vines in 2018, and followed up with a subsequent acre of Blanc Dubois vines in 2019, totaling 1200 vines. They have plans to expand their estate out to 6 acres (or 3600 vines) of varying varietals in the future. The Crimson Cabernet block supplies their Estate Red wine, while the Blanc Dubois block supplies their Estate White wine. Both are hybrid varietals that have a high tolerance to disease pressures (in the Southeast) and yield magnificent wines.
While simultaneously establishing the vineyard, and learning the wine making process, Jason thoughtfully designed their Winery and Tasting Room, going through eleven different designs. Jason’s design considered the overall logistical flow of the grapes through the winery, from fermentation to bottling, maximizing efficiency, and leaving room for future expansion. He then started construction, working on it in his free time and weekends, which took a year and a half to complete.
After almost four years of planning, planting, designing, building, wine making, staffing, and investment, Three Strands opened its doors on April 24, 2021 with great success.
